Keeping the Gearboxes and Our Fingers Safe

A big part of robotics is problem solving and one problem needing to be solved was the safety of the gearboxes on our drivetrain. Unfortunately for us, these gears have chewed up a few innocent wires in our history of being a robotics team. We faced uncertainty if the next victim of these vicious gears would be one of our fingers. Not only did we live in fear, the gears were also constantly being filled with metal shavings and, funnily enough, grass. To combat this, we 3D-printed covers to keep both the gears running smoothly and our team.

“If you don’t think it is safe, it probably isn’t” - Quotes from the Safety Captain
