Recruiting for ROCORI Robotics!

Jay Femrite

Updated: Jan 3, 2024

The Varsity ROCORI Robotics is searching for students grades 7-12 to bring their skills to the team for the upcoming season. The Robotics season starts early January through May with practices being after school and competitions generally being weekend events. Coaches Jay Femrite and Riley Donat have been committed to making robotics a supportive fun environment for students to increase their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and teamwork skills.

The Varsity ROCORI Robotics team competes through the FIRST Robotics Competition which combines “the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology”. The FIRST Robotics Competition is a sport for the mind that involves “strict rules, limited time and resources” where throughout the season, “teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors.” – https://www.firstinspires.org

ROCORI Robotics directly supports post high school further education and careers within but not limited to engineering, computer design, machining, and software programming. Students will be introduced to the operation of computers and machinery such as CAD, CAM, and CNC as well as JAVA computer programing. Students will develop teamwork and communication skills during Friday ‘hub’ meeting with other ROBOTICS teams in the conference community. Students will be provided with the opportunity to work directly with engineers and technicians from local manufacturers and businesses such as COLDSPRING, UMC, Columbia Gear, Medtronic. Other “more than robots” knowledgeable topics include management, business, graphical design, marketing, and advertising where students will use teamwork while working with individual skill sets to brainstorm and apply knowledge to real world problems.

Important Dates:

Parent, Student and Coaches Meeting: January 5th @ 7:00pm located at ROCORI High School Innovation Center/Library

Season Start: Kickoff January 6th; @9:00am through 1:00 located at Becker High School *there will be transportation for students and coaches leaving from ROCORI High School.

The ROCORI Robotics team is starting soon, however there is still much time to join! Students may join at any point throughout the season. Please contact coaches Jay Femrite and Riley Donat regarding any questions at frc4728@gmail.com or Jay’s phone (320) 761-4827.
